In my career as a Realtor I have encountered many instances where I did not feel safe. I was holding open houses alone in empty houses or showing homes to men and women I did not know and sometimes I was suspicious about the motives of the "potential" buyers. I always carried my pepper spray, flashlight/taser and my comb/knife just in case I needed to defend myself from a sudden attack.

These products put me at ease to do my job and engage with the public as a professional. I was not going to be a "volunteer victim".

Following are a few Realtor Safety Tips that could save your life.
  1. Avoid photos of you that display expensive jewelry.
  2. Let the client proceed in front of you during a private showing.
  3. Identify each of a home’s exits prior to a showing or open house. Keep exit doors unlocked.
  4. Don’t leave a client in your blind spot. Let the client proceed in front of you during a private showing.
  5. Drive through the neighborhood prior to a private showing or open house. Be on the lookout for safety concerns.
  6. Identify each of a home’s exits prior to a showing or open house. Keep exit doors unlocked.
  7. Take a self-defense class.
  8. Be ready to defend yourself. Travel with pepper-spray or one of our other self defense weapons.
